Everything Marvel Announced at D23: The X-Men Are Cast, Doom Raises the Sentinels, and One Question Finally Got Its Answer

Marvel Studios ran its block of Disney’s Entertainment Showcase at D23 in Anaheim on August 14, 2026. It opened with Vision and ended with a new generation of mutants. In between: a release date for the Wolverine game, a new Avengers: Doomsday trailer released online, and an answer to a question fans have argued about since a green cloak walked onto a Comic-Con stage two years ago. The showcase wasn’t livestreamed, so the room in Anaheim saw it first. Everything below is out in the world now, in the order it happened.
VisionQuest Opened the Show
Kevin Feige led with the project closest on the calendar. VisionQuest premieres October 14 on Disney+, and Feige framed it as the close of a trilogy that started with WandaVision and ran through Agatha All Along. Paul Bettany and James Spader took the stage together, Vision and Ultron reunited more than a decade after Age of Ultron. Bettany got the first big laugh of the night, joking after his character’s many demises that “no one is ever really dead.”
The first trailer screened for the room. Off stage, Marvel showed the first official look at White Vision’s new suit and debuted Ultron’s new look in both robot and human form. Ultron has a human form now. The MCU has never done that before.
Wolverine Got a Date
Feige moved to Marvel’s Wolverine, Insomniac’s PlayStation 5 game, and put a date on it: September 15, 2026. The sizzle runs about 42 seconds and packs in Sentinels, Omega Red, Sabretooth, Mystique, The Hand, Jean Grey fighting alongside Logan, and Wolverine in the classic yellow suit. In the game, Logan’s old unit Team X was founded by a man named Nathaniel Essex.
The New Doomsday Trailer
Feige brought out Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell to introduce a new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, the same footage that played behind closed doors in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, now released online for everyone. It’s billed as a Special Look, it runs about two minutes, and it’s Doom’s trailer start to finish.
Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm narrates, warning the assembled heroes about the man in the mask: “I knew he was lost.” The footage frames Doom as a broken man rebuilt into something the Avengers have never faced, and coverage reads it as confirming the long-reported engine of his story, the loss of his wife and son. Thor promises him suffering. Doom blocks Stormbreaker and puts the God of Thunder down with a blast of green energy. The trailer ends with Doom raising an army of Sentinels, the mutant-hunting machines, and sending them at the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four at once.
Footage of Doom sending Sentinels at the X-Men leaked in early August. We kept it in the rumor column, because that’s where unreleased footage belongs. The official trailer now shows the same concept on Marvel’s own channel.
A surprise video of Hugh Jackman played during the panel, jokingly begging for a role in Doomsday. It was a joke video. Nothing was announced. But Marvel played Wolverine’s face in the room the same night it armed Doom with Sentinels.

Doom Is From Earth-828
The trailer also settles a two-year argument. Through Doom’s established history with the Fantastic Four of First Steps woven into the footage, it confirms this Doctor Doom comes from Earth-828, the First Family’s own universe. So Victor Von Doom belongs to the retro-future reality Marvel introduced last summer, which is exactly where a Doom should come from. And if Doom is 828’s own Victor, then the man wearing Robert Downey Jr.’s face is not simply a Tony Stark variant from the main timeline.
The X-Men Are Cast
Feige closed with the X-Men. Joined on stage by director Jake Schreier, who made Thunderbolts, Feige brought out Sadie Sink, who debuted as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and told the crowd how good it felt “to finally be able to talk about this character.” Then the rest walked out, a cast Feige said had met backstage for the very first time: Kit Connor as Scott Summers. Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier. Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Inde Navarrette as Rogue. Maya Boyd as Storm.
The movie lands exclusively in theaters on May 5, 2028, and Marvel unveiled the official X-Men logo alongside it. This will be the first standalone X-Men team film since Fox’s Dark Phoenix in 2019, and the first ever made inside the MCU. Marvel first announced it was bringing mutants home at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, so the wait for this cast ran almost exactly as long as the gap since the last team movie. This is a young roster built around students, not veterans, and Sink has since called building around a younger generation of mutants a “smart choice.”
Two names were missing. Charles Melton, the heavy favorite to play Beast, dropped out before D23, so Hank McCoy’s seat is open. Cailee Spaeny, long rumored for Rogue, isn’t in the lineup either. The role went to Navarrette. Feige said this was only “some of the main cast,” so more names are coming.
Adam Driver Is Nathaniel Milbury
The last reveal came by video, and one report says the clip teased Magneto before landing on the actual announcement: Adam Driver is joining the movie as Nathaniel Milbury. Milbury is the only name Marvel Studios confirmed. The studio’s own recap describes Driver’s role, with a straight face, as “a very sinister figure” named Nathaniel Milbury, and stops there. In the comics, Nathaniel Milbury is a longtime alias of Mister Sinister, the immortal mutant geneticist. The trades ran that math instantly. Marvel never said the word.
The founder of Team X in Insomniac’s Wolverine is Nathaniel Essex, Sinister’s real name in the comics. Two projects, one stage, two aliases of the same man, and the studio said Sinister exactly zero times. If Milbury is who sixty years of comics say he is, Marvel cast its Jean Grey, its Scott Summers, and the scientist whose entire obsession is those two people’s genetics in the same night.
Driver said he and Feige had “been talking for years about me joining MCU” and that they finally found the right fit.
What the Show Floor Revealed
The panel wasn’t the whole story. Marvel’s D23 displays had first looks the panel never mentioned. The Doomsday installation showed a brand-new second costume for Downey’s Doom, different from the one on every banner. The costume lineup added first looks at Doomsday outfits for Nightcrawler and Mystique, two X-Men whose looks had never been displayed at any convention, with Mystique’s arriving weeks after Rebecca Romijn’s return went on screen in the July trailer. The TVA experience at the Marvel booth included the layout of the X-Mansion as it appears in Doomsday. And the VisionQuest booth carried imagery that has fans reading a tease of another Human Torch in the MCU. That one stays in the theory column until the show says otherwise.
What August 14 Changed
The X-Men’s future has faces and a date: May 5, 2028. The X-Men’s present, the original cast fighting Doom this December, got its most revealing footage yet, with the Sentinel army official and Doom’s home universe named. VisionQuest went from a date on the calendar to a trailer with Spader’s voice on it. Wolverine put September 15 on the year’s biggest mutant game.
Hayley Atwell stood on that stage between Downey and Evans to introduce the trailer. After a summer where Peggy Carter’s role in this movie became the rumor mill’s favorite argument, Marvel put her front and center and explained nothing.
