This policy explains what The Come Up Podcast collects when you visit thecomeuppodcast.com, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We are a small independent podcast and article site. We are not in the business of selling data.
Who we are
The Come Up Podcast (“we”, “us”) publishes thecomeuppodcast.com. If you want to reach us about anything in this policy, use the contact form.
We do not publish a postal address. Every request under this policy, including data access and deletion requests, should go through the contact form, which reaches us directly.
What we collect
Information you give us
Contact form. When you use our contact form we collect the name, email address, subject category and message you type. This is handled by WPForms and emailed to us. It is also stored in the site database so we do not lose it. We use it only to reply to you.
Newsletter. Our newsletter signup is an embedded form served by beehiiv. When you subscribe, your email address is collected and stored by beehiiv, not by us, and is subject to beehiiv’s own privacy policy. You can unsubscribe from any email we send.
Comments. Commenting requires a registered account. If you register we store the username, email address and password hash you supply, plus your IP address and browser user agent at the time of commenting, which WordPress records as a spam-prevention measure.
Polls. Some articles include a poll. Voting records your choice and your IP address so the same person cannot vote repeatedly. We do not use poll data to identify you.
Information collected automatically
Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4, connected through the Site Kit by Google plugin, to understand which articles people read and where visitors come from. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes information including your IP address, approximate location, device and browser, pages viewed and time on page. Google acts as a data processor for this and may transfer data outside your country. See Google’s privacy policy.
Server and caching. Our host, Hostinger, keeps standard server logs including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. Pages are served through LiteSpeed Cache and Hostinger’s content delivery network, which process request data in order to deliver pages quickly.
Embedded content. Articles and the Episodes page embed video from YouTube. YouTube embeds only load when you press play, but once you do, YouTube may set cookies and collect data as though you had visited YouTube directly. The newsletter form is likewise served by beehiiv. Embedded content from other sites behaves exactly as if you had visited that site.
Media files. If you upload an image to this site, avoid uploading images with embedded location data, because visitors can download and extract it.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses:
- Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics 4, used to count visits and understand which content performs.
- Functional cookies set by WordPress if you log in or leave a comment, so the site remembers you.
- Third-party cookies set by YouTube and beehiiv when you interact with their embedded content.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking analytics cookies will not stop you reading anything on this site.
Analytics cookies are governed by Google Consent Mode. In the UK, the EU and the wider EEA, analytics storage is switched off by default before any Google tag loads, and stays off unless you accept. A banner asks for that choice on your first visit, and we remember it for 180 days in a single first-party cookie that contains nothing but your answer. You can change your mind by clearing your browser cookies for this site.
Why we are allowed to use your data
Where UK or EU data protection law applies, our lawful bases are: consent for analytics cookies and for newsletter signup; legitimate interests for keeping the site secure, preventing spam and understanding in aggregate how the site is used; and contract or legitimate interests for replying to a message you send us.
How long we keep it
- Contact form messages: kept while we may still need to respond, then deleted.
- Newsletter subscribers: kept by beehiiv until you unsubscribe.
- Comments and registered accounts: kept indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognised. You can ask us to delete an account at any time.
- Analytics: retained by Google according to the retention period set in our Google Analytics property.
- Server logs: retained by our host on their own schedule.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for advertising. Data is processed by the services that make this site work: Google (analytics), beehiiv (newsletter), Hostinger (hosting and CDN), and YouTube (video). Each has its own privacy policy. We may also disclose information if legally required to.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent. If you have an account on this site you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold, and ask us to erase it, except data we must keep for administrative, legal or security reasons.
To make a request, use the contact form. If you are in the UK or EU and you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page.
